MHE

Introduction. This safe system has been designed to enable you to work more safely.

Safe System of Work.

a. Only personnel who hold a recognised and current forklift operating licence are permitted to drive forklift trucks. New drivers must receive an in house safe driving assessment prior to starting work. They are also to be supervised more closely.
b. MHE must be used in accordance with your training and company policy.
c. Trucks that are unsafe or faulty are not to be used until they have been repaired. They must be taped off and a sign applied to prevent use.
d. A minimum of 3 forklift truck length is to be maintained between vehicles.
e. Never carry anything on the overhead guard.
f. Never drive over loose objects. Stop and pick them up and place them in a safe position.
g. The use of seat belts is required at all times
h. Do not allow personnel to walk behind your vehicle unless you stop and advise them to do so.
i. Do not allow personnel to work under your forks.
j. Ideally you should only carry one pallet at a time, however if there is a requirement to carry 2 pallets and it is safe to do so drivers may do so. In such circumstances pallets must be stable with no chance of falling. The driver must travel slower than normal (3mph), the driver is to travel in reverse and take extra care. Under no circumstances are more than 2 pallets to be carried together on forks at any one time.
k. Never pass other vehicles at intersections or in other potentially dangerous situations.
l. If you are going to move out of sight of your truck then you must take your keys with you.
m. Ensure that the driver of any vehicle you are about to load or unload is aware of your intentions. Ensure the lorry has been immobilised and, as added precaution, the wheels chocked.
n. If you need to talk to a pedestrian, stop the forklift and place the forks/load on the ground then indicate to the pedestrian that it is safe to approach the truck. Complete your conversation then wait until the pedestrian is 10 feet (3,5 metres) away and in a safe position before pulling away. Ensure that if your direction of travel is the same at the pedestrian that they are aware of your intentions before you pull away.

I have read and understand the above information and have been trained in the correct safe practice. It is my intent to comply with this and any other Health and Safety training provided by the company.

Critics are like eunuchs in a harem; they know how it's done, they've seen it done every day, but they're unable to do it themselves.
